Descripción
The Naoroji Godrej Centre for Plant Research (NGCPR) has been conducting quality research and assessment leading to the conservation of plant diversity. The Centre is a house to diverse collection of herbarium specimens collected from various location from 12 states, 1 union territory and 1 island in India. These herbarium specimens are being preserved at the Research Centre facility located near Shirval, District Satara, State Maharashtra, India. Additional information about NGCPR can be accessed at www.ngcpr.org.
Registros

Plant specimens were collected from various locations in India. During the collection, information such as plant details, location, date, collectors name and collection number were recorded in the field record books. These specimens were then identified in the laboratory at NGCPR. Following the standard herbarium preparation method, the specimens were dried and mounted on herbarium sheet. Details recorded in the field were entered in the herbarium specimen sheets. A barcode with unique ID number was provided to each herbarium specimen. For the digitization process, the barcoded herbarium specimens were scanned using a camera and high-resolution images were stored as digital herbarium.
Área de Estudio | The NGCPR Digital Herbarium project aimed at developing herbarium specimens followed by digitization. Under this project plant specimens were collected from various locations in the natural habitats from the Western Ghats, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and other parts of India. A total of 1994 herbarium specimens were developed and digitized covering 12 states, one union territory and one island. |
---|---|
Control de Calidad | The identification of plant specimens was conducted with the help of a literature review, flora, illustrations, photographs, comparison with properly identified herbarium specimens, and consultation with herbarium expertise. While preparing the herbarium care was taken to ensure that the sample included flowers/fruits/portion of the stem with leaves and disease free. |
